Key findings

The overview on hate crime registered by the police between 2017 and 2021 includes a section on crimes registered as "hostile to Islam". Accordingly, the overall figures of such crimes were 1,075 in 2017, 910 in 2018, 950 in 2019, 1.026 in 2020 and 732 in 2021. Thereof, the figures for violent crimes were 56 in 2017, 74 in 2018, 60 in 2019, 71 in 2020 and 45 in 2021.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

Figures were drawn from the police crime statistics (Polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik) on "politically motivated crime" (politisch motivierte Kriminalität). Survey period January 1st, 2017 to December 31st, 2021 (referring to new category "hostile to islam", page 21).
